OUR HISTORY

Proudly grooming nearly 80 miles of trails.

Located in Sayner, Wisconsin, of Vilas County, the official “birthplace of the snowmobile”, the Sayner Barnstormers Snowmobile Club was founded on November 26, 1969. This makes the Barnstormers one of the oldest snowmobile clubs in Wisconsin, perhaps the oldest. There were 27 Charter Members. The original officers were President Russell Davis, Vice President Frank Crall, Co-Treasurers Jerry (Paul) Burkhart & Tom Renk, and Secretary Florence Brooker.

When the Barnstormers were founded, there were no snowmobile trails in Vilas County. The club fought through strong resistance to build a trail system, which has become one of the best signed and maintained trail systems in the world. Today, we continue to maintain part of the State’s oldest snowmobile trail – Trail 51 running through the heart of the Northern Highland American Legion State Forest, along with other trails bordering with and stretching from Arbor Vitae, Boulder Junction, Conover, Eagle River, and Saint Germain.

Today, the Barnstormers have over 190 Family Members and we continue to grow all the time. We have a strong and dedicated group of officers, led by: President & Trail Boss Dennis Horan, Vice President Jim Krieck, Treasurer Tom Reed, and Secretary Anita Horan, along with a great group of groomer drivers.

Our group of volunteers are dedicated to continue bringing you, the snowmobiler, some of the finest maintained and signed trails in the country for years to come!
